YAMAHA RHINO ROLL OVER

Yamaha Rhino ATVs are allegedly subject to rollovers which can cause broken or crushed legs, ankles and feet. Some passengers have also broken their arms or wrists while trying to brace against the rollover. Some injuries have been so severe that amputation was required, and small children have been crushed to death.

In 2006, Yamaha issued safety warnings for its Rhino ATV customers, noting that turning too fast increased the risk of tipping the ATVs over, and offering an outline of what to do and not to do if your ATV was rolling over.

The rollovers are attributed to design defects that make the vehicle dangerously unstable. Yamaha has offered to provide doors and passenger handholds for Rhino models sold between 2004 and 2007. It will install these items to prevent riders from sticking out arms and legs during rollover accidents.

It is a spontaneous human reaction that causes people to stick their arms and legs out to brace against a rollover, a reaction that has lead to disastrous injuries. Critics are baffled as to why the Rhino was not designed with protective doors.

Another problem with the Rhino design is its very high center of gravity - making it extremely subject to rollovers. Yamaha was aiming at making a quicker, smaller ATV, but in doing so, ignored passenger safety.

Investigators allege that Yamaha ignored the problem, even after hundreds of complaints of injuries, and some deaths.
