RENU LENS SOLUTION
Reports show an increased number of eye infections in consumers cleaning their disposable soft contact lens with ReNu solution with MoistureLoc. It is alleged that this increase is linked to the use of ReNu with MoistureLoc eye contact solution. Fungal eye infections, especially undetected, can lead to severe eye sight damage or blindness. Symptoms of fungal eye infection include blurry vision, eye pain, eye redness, sensitivity to light and discharge.
In several reported cases, consumers in the U.S. and Asia were using Bausch and Lomb's popular eye contact solution, ReNu with MoistureLoc and experienced an increased rate of corneal infection.
One alleged problem is that the ingredient sodium phosphate allegedly depletes the eyes of emzymes, which drys out the eyes and causes infections. Sodium phosphate is also known as fluoride. Fluoride is a waste product that apparently causes many health problems. Recently, several drugs have been withdrawn from the market due to fluoride content.
It is also claimed that ReNu with MoistureLoc was contaminated with a fungus.
The FDA stated that 26 out of 30 investigated eye infection cases involved ReNu solution. The Singapore government's Health Ministry noted that in many cases the eye infections were left untreated and required cornea transplants. Bausch and Lomb are investigating these cases of ReNu solution eye infections in the U.S. and Asia.
