ICY HOT BURNS
A nationwide recall has been issued by Chattem, Inc., the manufacturer of Icy Hot Heat Therapy products due to reports of skin irritation and burn injuries. So far, more than 200 people have reported getting first, second and third degree burns and other skin irritations from Icy Hot Heat Therapy products, prompting Chattem to order the recall.
Icy Hot Heat Therapy is a self-heating disposable patch designed to soothe muscular and joint pain. The recalled products, which are sold over-the-counter and packaged in a red colored plastic pouch, include the following:
- Icy Hot Heat Therapy Air Activated Heat — Back
- Icy Hot Heat Therapy Air Activated Heat — Arm, Neck and Leg
- Icy Hot Heat Therapy Air Activated Heat — Arm, Neck, and Leg
Some of the recalled products were samples of the Icy Hot that were issued with a promotional package of the 3 oz. size of Aspercreme Pain Relieving Creme. The recall does not involve any other Icy Hot or Aspercreme products.
Chattem Inc. manufactures and sells health and beauty products, toiletries, proprietary drugs, fragrances and dietary supplements. According to Forbes.com, The Chattanooga, TN-based company said the number of consumers affected by the product is fewer than 1,800, or a tenth of 1% of the approximately 1.8 million units sold.
Consumers who have the Icy Hot Heat Therapy products under recall should immediately stop using the products, discard them, and/or return them to Chattem, Inc. You may also report any adverse reactions experienced with the use of the Icy Hot Heat Therapy products at the FDA Adverse Event Reporting Program
