DIGITEK DOUBLE DOSE
The heart medication Digitek has been recalled because some tablets are twice as thick and contain twice the medication they should. The double dose tablets may cause toxicity in renal-failure patients.
Apparently, a manufacturing error caused two tablets to be melded together, causing the over-sized tablets, which were released and labeled as if they were single-dose strength.
An overdose of the ingredient digitalis can cause vomiting, nausea, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability and bradycharida.
Digitek - the country's leading treatment for congestive heart failure - is used in the treatment of pets, as well as humans, and can easily be purchased by mail order.
Pharmacies have been asked to notifiy patients that may have unknowingly taken the double dose. If you have taken Digitek between March 2006 and April 2008, please contact your physician.
