TOSHIBA DLP DEFECTIVE TELEVISIONS
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Toshiba America Consumer Products alleging that the bulbs in the Toshiba DLP televions burn out prematurely.
Consumers thought that the TVs had a bulb life of 6,000 to 8,000 hours, but they apparently cease functioning after far fewer hours, something comsumers allege that Toshiba was aware of.
To add to the aggrevation, replacement lamps are hard to come by, with owners allegedly waiting months for back-ordered lamps.
One Texas family complaints their brand new Toshiba DLP TV quit after only 60 days, and while Toshiba will provide a free replacement bulb, they are stuck for weeks watching a dinky little TV that is still running after two decades.
In a customer service letter, Toshiba claims there may have been a bad batch of bulbs in certain models, and new lamps would be sent to consumers experiencing problems, free of charge, but having a two-month wait time.
Some service reps are offering to replace the blub once, while others stated they would replace any burnt-out lamp regardless of the failure rate, as long as it was within the one-year warranty period.
