CHANTIX
Chantix is a product designed to help smokers quit. However, the FDA had informed healthcare professionals about reports of depression, suicidal thoughts and changes in mood or emotion within days of starting Chantix treatment.
Others have reported drowsiness to the point at which they cannot operate machinery or drive a vehicle. Thousands of of adverse effects reports have come into the FDA, prompting surveillance of the product.
Chantix works by blocking the pleasure response to nicotine, and has proven more effective in helping people to quit smoking than its nearest rival, Zyban.
Pfizer claimed that the most common side effects of Chantix are nausea, sleep disturbance, constipation, gas and vomiting. The reports of people experiencing suicidal thoughts came as a shock. After a story about the drug aired in the Dallas area, more than 5,000 complaints poured in concerning Chantix side effects.
In the UK a popular television editor slashed his writes just a few weeks into his 12-week Chantix regime.
In the US, a promising musician suddenly abused his girlfriend, broke into a neighbors home and was shot to death.
